Gold prices are expected to rise this year, according to Gold Traders Association president Jitti Tangsithpakdi's forecast. The gold market in 2010 should be lively after gold prices rose continually and surged to a new high last year, he said. "However, the gold market is not expected to be very lively yet as gold traders are still celebrating during the New Year's holiday," Mr Jitti said.
Local gold shops on Bangkok's Yaowarat Road were quiet as many people returned home during the long holiday. Mr Jitti said gold prices in Hong Kong and New York markets will have to be closely monitored this Monday.
